View of special Full Moon - Vijaynagar

Hello Residents of Vijaynagar,

You would have read the news in newspaper on 30th January that today(30th Jan 2010) the moon will be bigger and brighter than the usual size.

With my small camera I have tried to snaps the Special Full Moon on Saturday.

On Jan 30, the moon becomes full, three hours after reaching perigee, making it bigger and brighter than we are going to see for the rest of 2010,"

The Black Clouds was trying to engulf the bigger and Brighter Full Moon on 30th January 2010.

As the Moon come closer to Earth during its full phase than at any other time in 2009.

I have tried to Elobrate the same news in finding the answers to my questions. Did ever you have had a question to yourself .... why ?

Question

Why the Moon on 30th January was bigger and brighter?

Answer

The Moon does not orbit Earth in a perfect circle. Instead, it follows an elliptical path that brings it 50,000 kilometres closer to our planet on one side of its orbit (called perigee) than the other (apogee).

In other words

"This is because the moon's orbit is an ellipse with one side 50,000 km closer to earth than the other. In the language of astronomy, the two extremes are called 'apogee' (far away) and 'perigee' (nearby).

This will make it about 14% bigger and 30% brighter than typical full Moons.

On Jan 30, the moon becomes full, three hours after reaching perigee, making it bigger and brighter than we are going to see for the rest of 2010,"

If you would have seen the sky on 30th January 2010, the moon was little different and it's because of that elliptical orbit. The moon was closer to Earth on Saturday night, making the largest full moon of 2010

The moon at perigee will look bigger than it looks in all other positions, as the apparent size of closer objects is always more.

The phenomenon occurs as the Moon's orbit is elliptical with one side 50,000 km closer to Earth than the other.

Did you know the moon actually orbits around Earth along an elliptical path and not one that is circular?

According to spaceweather, the full moon on 30th Jan night will not only look wider, but also brighter. This is called the perigee Moon. Mars will also be much closer tonight.

At closest, our natural satellite lies roughly 3,56,630 kms from Earth compared to the Moon's average distance of 3,84,800 km from Earth.

If any member of vijaynagar has more information about this event, then please come forward and share the valuable information to our young generation.

The saga of Full Moon was continued on Sunday evening too.
